CASCADe

The Programme

The CASCADe programme aims at enhancing African expertise to generate carbon credits from the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses (AFOLU) sector and bioenergy activities. It supports pilot projects and case studies in asset classes such as plantation forestry, agroforestry, and biofuels to open up opportunities for African participation in the CDM and voluntary carbon markets.

In its 7 target countries (Benin, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Madagascar, Mali, Senegal), CASCADe provides institutional support, training workshops, technical assistance to project developers, and a platform for knowledge transfer that will facilitate cooperation between buyers and sellers.

The project was launched in December 2007 at the Bali UNFCCC conference. Its duration will be 3 years.
