generate carbon credits from the Agriculture, Forestry and Other
Land Uses (AFOLU) sector and bioenergy activities. It supports
pilot projects and case studies in asset classes such as plantation
forestry, agroforestry, and biofuels to open up opportunities
for African participation in the CDM and voluntary carbon markets.
The project was launched in December 2007 at the Bali UNFCCC
conference. Its duration will be 3 years.
Under the supervision of the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) - Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, the programme
is implemented jointly by the UNEP Risoe Centre, the BioCarbon
Fund of the World Bank, the French Agricultural Research Centre
for International Development (CIRAD)
and the French National Forestry Office (ONF
