2nd
Workshop on the Environment
6-8 November- Hamburg (Germany)
UNEP's
2nd Workshop on the Environment brought together approximately
80 participants including ECAs, financial institutions, government
officials, intergovernmental bodies and non-governmental organizations
from 16 countries worldwide for an informative and interactive
two-day event. The workshop focused on two distinct areas: Day
one looked at design and implementation of monitoring provisions
as a means to ensure identified environmental risks of a given
project do not materialise. Day two built on the discussions of
last year's workshop, identifying the financial risks and opportunities
of climate change as they pertain to ECAs.
Overall,
the workshop clearly provided a good opportunity for ECAs to share
past experiences and to learn how to better implement their respective
environmental guidelines in the future. ECAs were also encouraged
to start thinking of innovative products they could offer to respond
to the global challenge of climate change. Participants have since
expressed great interest in a Third Workshop on the Environment
and in possibly contributing to the formation of specific working
groups to advance the discussions and ideas raised during the
event.
