Purpose

Prepare an environmental impact assessment for the proposed windfarm.


Summary

DEG financed a first round of project assessment in 2000, including the installation of wind measurement equipment at three prospective sites. The planned project is a 30-50 MW wind farm at Kpone, Ghana. It would be the first wind park in Ghana and the first of its size is Sub-saharan Africa.

Status

Study completed in December 2001. Power purchase negotiations underway with new government. Project found to not be viable without a grant component.
