30-50 MW Wind Farm in Ghana
($30,000 advisory support for $24,000,000 total investment)
Purpose: Prepare an environmental impact assessment for
the proposed windfarm.
Status: Study completed in December 2001. Power purchase
negotiations underway with new government. Project found to not
be viable without a grant component.
Summary: DEG financed a first round of project assessment
in 2000, including the installation of wind measurement equipment
at three prospective sites. The planned project is a 30-50 MW wind
farm at Kpone, Ghana. It would be the first wind park in Ghana and
the first of its size is Sub-saharan Africa.
