3 MW Biogas Plant in Philippines

($13,115 advisory support for $3,400,000 total investment)

Purpose: Prepare for the project consortium a formal evaluation of the policy context and quantification of greenhouse gas emission reductions; secure the project's emission reduction credits.

Status: Agreement signed with a carbon intermediary to promote and sell the CERs (approximately 53,000 tons per annum) from the project.

Summary The project will utilize a proven, low-cost technology to extract biogas (at 65% methane gas content and 32% carbon dioxide) from the refuse of an alcohol distillery. The waste will be treated in an 'upflow anaerobic sludge blanket' digester. The methane gas will be used as a fuelstock to power a steam turbine generator plant with operating capacity of 3 MW and 25,000 pounds of steam per hour. The consortium foresees a substantial greenhouse gas abatement opportunity.
