Lawrence Agbemabiese

Position: Programme Officer

Responsibilities:
  • Building capacity of small and medium energy enterprise (SME) developers in African countries.
  • Assessing the developmental impacts of energy enterprise investments.
  • Promoting e-commerce applications of renewable energy through replication of sustainable business models.
  • Assisting governments to implement policy and regulatory interventions necessary for SME growth.

Biography:

Lawrence Agbemabiese holds a graduate degree in development studies from the University of Science and Technology, Ghana, and a Ph.D. from the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy (CEEP), at the University of Delaware, USA.

He is currently a programme officer at the Energy Branch of UNEP’s Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, where he helps design, implement and evaluate alternative business models for sustainable energy services in several African countries. Lawrence also liaises with universities and non-governmental organizations on a number of multi-disciplinary initiatives. These include: the design of performance indicators and methods for evaluating the development impacts of small and medium-sized energy enterprises; and an investigation of links between development paradigms, energy policies and the evolution and sustainability of energy regimes.
