Biography:
Kamala Ernest manages the Transport Programme of UNEP, which is
aimed at promoting the integration of environmental and social considerations
in transport-related decisions at all levels, ranging from global
to personal.
Before joining UNEP, Kamala worked at PETRONAS, the national petroleum
corporation of Malaysia, coordinating climate change activities
within the Group. Prior to that, at the Malaysia Energy Centre,
she was involved in the Malaysian Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement
Project (MIEEIP), which was co-funded by the UNDP/GEF, Government
of Malaysia and the Malaysian private sector. The MIEEIP was designed
to remove barriers to industrial energy efficiency through local
capacity building of human resources and existing institutions that
are, and can be, involved in the energy sector. She has also undertaken
various energy related studies in support of the National Energy
and Environment Policy of Malaysia.
Kamala has a Masters of Science degree in Computer Systems Engineering
from the University Putra Malaysia, and a Bachelor of Applied Science
in Applied Statistics and Operational Research from the University
of Science Malaysia.
