The Maldives, the First Winner in Carbon Neutral and Ozone-Friendly Race - Malé, 16 February 2010 - On 4 February 2010, the Maldives pledged to phase out Hydrochloro-fluorocarbons (HCFCs), a group of chemicals which are ozone-depleting and powerful greenhouse gases by 2020, 20 years ahead of the Montreal Protocol phase out schedule. Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Ozone Protection Award 2010 for Customs and Enforcement Officers: Individual Customs and Enforcement officers who have successfully prevented illegal trade of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) or products/equipment relying on ODS to/or from member countries of the regional ozone network for Europe and Central Asia (ECA network) are eligible to be nominated for the ECA Ozone Protection Award 2010.
