Disaster Relief - worldwide disaster aid and information via the Internet is a comprehensive site that provides up-to-date news about disasters around the world, sponsored by the American Red Cross and CNN.

The Living Almanac of Disasters provides decades of information about fires, earthquakes, and transportation disasters through an interactive medium.

The CRED/OFDA International Disasters Database makes available a specialised, validated database on natural and technological disasters that facilitates preparedness, thereby reducing vulnerability to disasters and improving disaster management.

The Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder is a national and international clearinghouse for information on natural hazards and human adjustments to hazards and disasters. The center's prime goal is to increase communication among hazard/disaster researchers and those individuals, agencies, and organizations that are actively working to reduce disaster damage and suffering.


Industrial Accidents

The APELL team works in close co-operation with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on a number of activities, and especially with the Environment Safety and Health Division and the Working Group on Chemical Accidents. The objective of this OECD work is to provide an opportunity for experts from governments, labour, international organisations, and other interested parties, to exchange information and experience; and based on this, to develop guidance on the prevention of, and preparedness for and response to, chemical accidents.

United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE): Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents The Convention aims to foster international cooperation to protect human beings and the environment against industrial accidents by preventing such accidents as much as possible, by reducing their frequency and severity, and by mitigating their effects. Available on this site is the full text of the Convention, along with information on the Signatories and Parties to the Convention, UNECE publications, and points of contact.

Mining Accidents

Mineral Resources Forum (MRF) - The Minerals Resources Forum (MRF) is an Internet framework for international co-ordination on the theme of minerals, metals and sustainable development, bringing together governments, intergovernmental entities, resource companies, and other concerned organisations and civil society.

MRF was established as an initiative of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) with financial assistance from the Government of the Netherlands. The United Nations Environment Programme, Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (UNEP DTIE) is a principal partner in the Environment Section of MRF.

Tailings.info is a site designed to address tailings disposal today. Modern technologies are discussed with case studies, examples of tailings failures, photos of tailings failures as well as worldwide guidance documentation. Contributions to the site are made from mining companies and employees of the mining industry making this site an excellent industrial and public information site.
