About the Campaign
The Green Passport Campaign is an initiative of the International
Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development
Working within the International
Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development (ITF-STD) framework
and building on the need to improve the tourism sector's efforts
to communicate with tourists on sustainable tourism through campaigns
on sustainability issues-UNEP, The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism,
The Brazilian Ministry of Environment, and France's Ministry of
Ecology, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning and other
partners have been developing effective communication tools. The
Green Passport Campaign is one outcome of this process.
The Green Passport Campaign aims to raise tourists' awareness
of their potential to contribute to sustainable development
The internet-based campaign, 'Green Passport' intends to unlock
the positive power of demand by raising tourists' awareness of
their potential to contribute to sustainable development by making
responsible holiday choices. The Green
Passport website has been developed in English, French, Greek,
German, and will be soon available in Spanish, Portuguese, and
Chinese. Its hardcopy version was launched in English
and Spanish
in June 2009 during the World Environment Day celebrations in
Mexico.
The Green Passport is available for national adaptation and
dissemination
Brazil was chosen to be the first destination to implement the
'Green Passport' on the national
level. It is also expected to launch nationally specific Green
Passport travel guides for Costa Rica and Ecuador by the end of
2009. The Campaign is available for national adaptation and dissemination
by new partners to raise awareness in the tourism community. Please
